The S.C. Department of Transportation and several contractors have paid $750,000 to a man who was injured in a crash on a section of I-95 that was undergoing maintenance, according to an attorney for the plaintiff.

Steven Scott had been driving along I-95 when his truck crashed into an overturned tractor trailer that had wrecked after going over a slight drop-off in the roadway, according to Hudson. He argued that the DOT should have closed the road because it was unsafe.
Scott came away from the accident with a cervical spine injury, nerve damage in his arms and hands, and post-traumatic stress, according to Hudson.

He submitted a settlement report on the case but could not be reached for comment. Attempts to reach the DOT’s attorney, Marshall H. Waldron Jr. of Griffith Sadler & Sharp in Beaufort, and an attorney for one of the contractors, R. Nicholas Felix of the McNair Law Firm in Hilton Head, were unsuccessful.
