Unfortunately these kind of problems happen many times out of the public eye for every time something is publicized. I’ve had multiple families come to me with deaths of family members who needed medical care while in custody but were denied it and lost their lives. South Carolina’s #tortclaimsact limits damages in a case like this to $300,000.00 for #survival and $300,000.00 for wrongful death. It prevents recovering against the individual in large part. There are no #punitive damages available. Just to recover one must prove #gross negligence. Holding agencies #accountable is a way to effectuate change. This young man did not deserve to die. It’s a tragic situation. I feel horribly for his family, friends, fellow teachers and students.
